SaaS, PaaS, IaaS, and now ITaaS? Not exactly, however, according to various professionals who attended SIIA’s All About the Cloud event, “software as a service is not [a] phenomenon limited to CRM, but one that will gradually takeover more and more of the IT infrastructure.” The attendees, which included the CEO of Intuit, NetSuite, and Plex Systems, also noted that companies who do not adapt to the modern cloud will surely fall behind. Ed Iacobucci, founder of Citrix, announced VirtualWorks Group, allowing future enterprise applications to access “a virtual index of all your data content in whatever silos your data might be in … in the cloud, out of the cloud, in the data center, or anywhere,” This index, appropriate titled Virtual Index Architecture, will allow companies to better manage their data. VIA is just the first development of VirtualWorks, but lacobucci said that more applications will be announced in the near future. VIA will be available later this summer.
According to CDW’s Cloud Computing Tracking Poll, 28% of US organizations use cloud computing. 84% of the organizations surveyed said they “have already employed at least one cloud application,” and email is the leading use of the cloud. File storage, video conferencing, and online learning are not far behind as common applications used.

Following our updates on the iCloud, Apple officially announced that they will release the iCloud at their Worldwide Developers Conference, as well as newer software. Not a surprise since these have been the rumors for weeks, but it’s nice to have some conformation. The WWCD begins Monday, June 6ths at 10AM Pacific time.
